So last night I killed a couple of birds with one stone. I wanted to lift a layout design I liked and try a couple of techniques while I was at. I mean, I am ALWAYS printing off TONS of inspiration and things I would like to try and filing them in a notebook and never really doing anything with them.
So last night, I did. And a big part of the reason I was even able to is because of my Library of Memories class I am taking at Big Picture Scrapbooking. As you may know, I recently finished sorting a ton of old photographs. While I was sorting, I would set aside the occasional photograph into a small pile with either a specific story in mind or just a knowledge that there was something about that photograph that needed to be told. Which made it really easy to find the numbers of photos to fit the design I wanted to lift and still be able to tell a meaningful story.
And then it was cool because I also got to try out this technique from Crystal Jeffery Rieger with alphabets and embossing power. I started with these:
And wound up with these, allowing me to get both the font and the color I wanted from a product I already had on hand! Genius!
I also did the same with Naked Chipboard which was actually her original suggestion. I just decided to try it on colored letters and thankfully, it worked. :o)
And of course when I completed the layout, I decided to make a card using some of the small scraps I had left (the big scraps went back into my stash).

I actually tried another technique from the Memory Maker Masters out on the card but I wasn't happy with the result, so I covered the "flower" up with a nice little sticker. Not to bad a card, eh?
And my little helper. Crackers. She always wants to contribute to every layout and card I do. And I am forever trying to keep her fur out of the adhesive!
